Likes are easy: a double-tap while scrolling. Saves and shares take intent. Someone either wants to come back to your post or wants a friend to see it. That's exactly why Instagram rewards them.

Saves = "this is useful"

People save content they want to use later: recipes, workout plans, travel itineraries, coding tips, outfit ideas. Saves tell Instagram your post has lasting value, so it keeps showing it to new people for longer.

Content that gets saved: - Step-by-step carousels - Checklists and cheat sheets - "X things I wish I knew" lists - Price comparisons and recommendations

Shares = "my friend needs to see this"

Content that gets shared: - Relatable humour - Strong opinions people agree with - Surprising facts - "Tag someone who…" content that's actually funny

"Save this for your next Goa trip" works. "Send this to the friend who always orders late-night Maggi" works. A generic "like and share" doesn't.

Giving posts a boost
