The first thousand followers are the hardest part of Instagram. After that, things get easier: people trust a profile that already has an audience, and the algorithm has enough data to know who to show your content to.

Week 1: fix the profile before chasing followers

Most people skip this and wonder why visitors don't follow. Before anything else:

  • Name field: include what you do, not just your name. "Riya | Bridal Makeup Jaipur" gets found in search; "Riya ✨" doesn't.
  • Bio: one line about what you post, one line about who it's for, one call to action.
  • Profile photo: your face for creators, a clear logo for brands.
  • Pin three posts that best show what the account is about.

Week 2–3: post Reels, lots of them

Reels are still the main way new accounts get discovered. Aim for four to five a week. They don't need to be polished:

  • Answer one question your audience always asks, in under 30 seconds.
  • Show a before/after, a process, or a quick tip.
  • Put the hook in the first second, on screen as text.

Watch which Reels get the most shares and saves, then make more like those.

Use local discovery

If you're a local business, tag your city in every post and use a couple of location hashtags (#jaipurmakeup, #puneeats). Local search on Instagram is underrated and far less competitive than broad hashtags.

Collaborate early

Collab posts show your content to two audiences at once. Find three or four accounts your size in your niche and pitch a simple collab: a joint Reel, a giveaway, a "recommendations" carousel.

Where buying followers fits in

Here's the honest bit. Many people in India use a starting boost to get over the "this account is tiny, why would I follow" problem. A few hundred to a couple of thousand followers, ideally Indian followers, makes your profile look established while your real content does the actual work.

What a boost won't do is make bad content perform. Use it to remove the social-proof barrier, then keep posting.

A realistic timeline

With four Reels a week, a tidy profile and a couple of collabs, most niche accounts can reach 1,000 real followers in one to three months. With a small boost on top, the profile looks credible from week one, which tends to make the organic part move faster.
