YouTube Watch Time (Watch Hours) · Reach the 4,000 public watch-hour requirement without waiting a year.OrderGetting into the YouTube Partner Program (YPP) is the goal for most Indian creators. The thresholds are public, but a lot of people still get confused about which number counts and when.
The two levels of YPP
YouTube offers an earlier tier for fan-funding features and the full tier for ad revenue. As of now, the commonly published thresholds are:
| Early access (fan funding) | Full YPP (ad revenue) | |
|---|---|---|
| Subscribers | 500 | 1,000 |
| Uploads | 3 public uploads in last 90 days | – |
| Watch time | 3,000 public hours in 12 months or | 4,000 public hours in 12 months or |
| Shorts | 3 million Shorts views in 90 days | 10 million Shorts views in 90 days |
Always confirm the current numbers in YouTube Studio under Earn, because YouTube adjusts them by country from time to time.
Other requirements people forget
- Two-step verification on your Google account.
- No active Community Guidelines strikes.
- An AdSense account linked during the application.
- Living in a country where YPP is available (India is).
What YouTube reviews
A real person looks at your channel: your main theme, most-viewed videos, newest videos, and the metadata (titles, thumbnails, descriptions). They check for reused content, misleading metadata and repetitive uploads. Reaction compilations and re-uploaded clips are the most common reasons for rejection.
Watch hours vs Shorts views
Long-form watch hours and Shorts views are two separate routes. You only need one. Shorts views don't count toward the 4,000-hour total.
Getting there faster
Most channels hit 1,000 subscribers before they hit 4,000 hours. A few things help:
- Make longer videos (10–20 minutes) that people actually watch.
- Go live, since public live streams count toward watch time.
- Build playlists so viewers keep watching.
Many Indian creators also use watch-hour services and subscribers to close the last gap. Remember that YouTube still reviews every channel manually, so original content is what gets you approved.
